Nashville, Tennessee Newborn Photographer | Why We Want Sleepy Babies | Woods Newborn Session
Is it really that important that baby sleeps during their session?
The short answer is YES.
And here’s why.
Sleepy babies allow us to get those difficult poses. Is it possible to pose an awake babe? Of course. BUT I truly believe that when babies are comfortable enough to sleep and aren’t being startled, it’s an all-around safer session. And I’m an all-around safety-first kinda gal. Because of that, there are many poses I won't attempt unless baby is asleep.
2. Babies can’t really focus on things with their eyes just yet. And when they try to, their eyes can wonder.
3. Sleepy babies just photograph better. Rather than seeing an alert babe with fists clenched, mouth open, looking about… a sleeping baby is peaceful and more photogenic.
So how do we create a sleepy baby?
When you book with me, you’ll receive a newborn prep guide. This will give you many of my sleepy baby secrets to do beforehand.
Once you arrive to the studio, the heat will be cranked up (so get ready to be warm, dressing in layers is helpful so that you can cool off).
Wrapping babies helps with getting the sleepy as well.
I utilize white noise in the studio to help baby be reminded of mama’s womb.
And of course, we stop for feedings! Because we are on baby’s time.
So now that you know a little more about the why, I hope I’ll be seeing you in the studio soon with your sweet angel!
Xoxo’s,
Sam
